Most forwarders move your freight and subcontract the rest. Transport, customs clearance and cargo insurance are three companies inside our group — so the people preparing your declaration are the people who can see the shipment.

Where one organisation changes the outcome
In part-load freight the three sit closer together than they look. An incomplete customs file holds up the whole trailer, and a liability cap calculated by weight has little to do with what your goods are worth. Both are decided before the vehicle moves.

Why the structure matters more in groupage
In a full load, the three functions can sit in three companies without much friction. Your goods travel alone, so a delay is yours and a claim is yours.
Part loads work differently. Your consignment shares a trailer, which means a document error is not confined to the shipper who made it — the vehicle waits, and every consignment on it waits too. It also means the goods are handled more: consolidated at a terminal, loaded alongside others, unloaded at the far end.
Both of those are decided before the vehicle moves, and both are easier to get right when the people doing the work can see the same file. That is the whole argument for the structure, and it is why we describe it rather than leaving it in the footer.
One set of details is enough
Collection address, the goods, weight and dimensions. Transport, clearance and cover follow from the same file.
